Privacy policy

Effective October 26, 2026

This policy explains what CivicPrep (operated by Invisible Remark LLC) (“the site”) collects when you use it. The short version: there are no accounts, we don’t ask for your name, immigration details or any other personal information, and we don’t sell data.

What stays on your device

Your chosen state, test version and study progress (which questions you marked as known, and where you left off) are saved in your browser’s local storage so they’re there next time. This data stays on your device; we never receive it. You can delete it with the button below or by clearing your browser’s site data.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people use the site and which pages and features they use, so we can improve it. Where the law requires permission first (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom and Quebec), Google Analytics is not loaded until you click Accept on the cookie banner. In the United States and the rest of Canada it is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time with the button below; we also treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out. We estimate your region from your device’s time zone, not from your IP address. When on, Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages visited, the actions you take on the site (for example, starting a practice test or choosing a state), your browser and device type, the site that referred you, and your approximate location based on your IP address. We don’t send Google your name, email or anything you type.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy; see also how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

You can also opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking cookies, or with a content blocker.

Other services the site loads

  • Photos of members of Congress are loaded from the public unitedstates/images project on GitHub, so GitHub receives your IP address and browser details when those photos load.
  • The “Listen” button uses your browser’s built-in text-to-speech. Depending on your browser and the voice it picks, the browser maker may process the question text to read it aloud.
  • If you choose to support the site, the payment happens on Stripe’s checkout page. Stripe collects your payment details and email for the receipt under its privacy policy; we never see your card number, and we can see your name, email and the amount in our Stripe account.
  • Like any website, our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and operations.

Children

The site is meant for adults preparing for the naturalization interview. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Your choices

You can use the whole site without analytics cookies by clicking Reject on the cookie banner, or by blocking cookies in your browser. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete information about you; because we don’t hold accounts or personal profiles, most data about your visit is held by Google Analytics and can be controlled with the opt-out options above.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
